Duke Nukem Forever

Oh boy, let's go ahead and make this first post a doozy. Duke's been out already for, what, 3 days in the US, and reviewers have wasted absolutely no time in bashing the game as much as possible. Look, I'll admit, I was kinda excited when I heard Gearbox was going to be releasing the game, but I wasn't expecting anything big. I wasn't expecting a game of the year, and I certainly wasn't expecting the Second Coming like some people thought would happen. However, let me make one thing perfectly clear.

DUKE NUKEM FOREVER IS NOT A BAD GAME.

Wait. Don't flame me yet, listen. Duke is not a bad game. However, it is not a good game. It is merely average. It's just meh. It's nothing special to go crazy over or to rage at. So why then are people bashing it so thoroughly? You'd think it's one of those games up there with Superman 64 or ET if you listened to half the people out there. Well, to try to throw my own small bucket of water onto this skyscraper fire Gearbox has created, let's see why it's not something to rage over.

1) It's average. Yes, I already said this. But why does average = bad in today's world? Mainly because of expectation. Duke's been in development for 12, 14 years. It's the game that's had the largest spotlight ever shone down on it. So when it doesn't live up to the fan expectation of the Second Coming of Christ, people go nuts. Why are you expecting something like that? Why? The game's been in development that long, nothing groundbreaking or extraordinary is going to come of it! Which brings me to my next point...

2) The wait time. Yes, it's been in development for over 12 years. What, do you think they were working on the same game the whole time?!? Let's look at some facts here: Engine changes, delays, more engine changes, development changes, studio changes, engine changes, trials, lawsuits, studio change, release. You honestly expected good to come of this? Gearbox was practically making a game on top of a game on top of a game. They had to take all that crap and fix it.

3) It's Duke Nukem. It's Jon St. Jon's epic voice acting. That alone makes it worth a rental or a $20 bargain bin buy.

In all fairness, I see why some are upset. But still, think of it like this: Now that the world's greatest vaporware is released, maybe Gearbox can make their own, original, GOOD Duke Nukem game. I'll celebrate to that hopefully.....as long as it doesn't take 12 years to make.

Startin' over

If you've been to this blog recently, you might have noticed a slight problem: No recent posts. Let's fix that, and get rid of the old crap.

This is the new Shuda's Blog of Random Information. Why am I doing this? Because I can. It's now cleaned up and looks a lot nicer.  I'll try to post something each week, minimum, so cross your fingers, and let's hope this turns into a bigger success than the last one.
